Fitting a CO alarm does not reduce the need for regular maintenance of all fossil fuelled appliances.
Tenants in rented dwellings have to have their gas appliances annually checked under the Gas Safety Regs, by a Gas Safe certified gas installer:

In N Ireland & the Channel Isles, Gas Registration is still operated by CORGI.

Combination Alarm
900-0122 Battery Combination Smoke & CO Alarm with Voice Alert

Circular design alarm that incorporates an Ionisation Smoke alarm sensor, and a separate Carbon Monoxide sensor.   
In the event of an emergency the alarm reacts to "Smoke" first.
Additionally a voice warning is incorporated that says
"Fire, fire,fire" or "Warning Cabon Monoxide".
Additionally a 3rd warning alerts you to a low battery state.
