Residential Safety Update

August 2005: Another issue of the ‘Residential Safety Update’ has just been published with the latest news on fire and carbon monoxide safety in the home. It includes a full review of the latest BS Code of Practice for smoke and heat alarms, and shows how it conflicts with the Building Regulations and Technical Standards.

Intended for architects, social housing providers, house-builders, electrical installers and all those involved with safety issues for residential buildings, the Update covers a wide range of important topical matters. Articles in this issue look in detail at the 2004 version of BS 5839-6 for both new and existing homes - and the higher standards now required to save lives. Also highlighted are steps needed to address the 50 or so deaths and 200 serious injuries every year from carbon monoxide poisoning at home.

Property protection is also covered, showing how smoke and heat alarms, with other safety equipment, can help prevent destruction of our irreplaceable historic buildings by fire. There are also case studies on both fire and CO safety, news of the latest product and company developments from Kidde Fyrnetics, and a Help Desk answering frequently asked questions.
