with battery back up in case of mains failure

Plug In CO Safety that can be taken on holiday

The latest guidance from CORGI is for holidaymakers to take a
Kitemarked plug-in or battery electronic CO alarm abroad with them,
when visiting Costa Del Sol resorts, or anywhere where Gas Safety
may not be as tightly controlled as at home. Click on Corgi above for story.
(These can be difficult/impossible to find in resorts).

Following the Corfu holiday deaths tragedy in October, demand is growing
rapidly for carbon monoxide alarms capable of short-term use in rented
properties here and abroad.  In this case, as in one in Yorkshire the
CO emissions were from an appliance outside the dwelling.

Kidde Fyrnetics – part of the world’s leading
manufacturer of smoke, heat and CO alarms – has launched a new range
of plug-in, mains-powered CO alarms which is ideal for this.

    This compliments
its existing hard wired & battery models.
Kidde's hard wired models interconnect to its hard wired smoke & heat alarms.

The new range is designed specifically to offer portability
and flexibility of positioning; they can be simply plugged in to the mains,
    free-standing or wall mounted.

In addition to the security of mains-power, battery back-up gives protection during power-cuts.
Both alarms in the range are equipped with a ‘peak level memory’ feature,
alerting of high CO levels (measured in parts per million-ppm)
even when detected in the user’s absence.

This can prompt identification of a leak or malfunctioning appliance that might otherwise go unnoticed.
The 0211 model also has a digital display to show carbon monoxide levels [ppm] detected and the ‘peak level memory’ feature.

The new range is also particularly useful for students or others in short-term
accommodation within the UK, where there are some 50 deaths and 200
serious injuries every year from CO.

Use of the less reliable CO ‘patches’ - designed to merely provide an indication
of the presence of CO, is not recommended as, of course, they do not give an
audible alarm to wake sleeping occupants.
In addition to this new range, Kidde Fyrnetics also manufacture hard-wired
CO alarms for permanent installations in all types of housing.

CO is odourless, colourless and poisonous, and can be produced by any fuel
burning appliances with the incomplete combustion of carbon based fuels
including bottled or mains gas, coal, oil and wood.

A comprehensive new Housing Safety Guide has just been published
by Kidde Fyrnetics to help
all those professionals involved with housing
to understand the latest responsibilities and requirements for
protecting occupants from carbon monoxide poisoning or fire.
It provides vital guidance for professionals on HHSRS too.
