Housing Association tenant dies in fire tragedy

Kidde are surprised that this tragic  event occurred with the
long standing recommendations from South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue,
seemingly ignored.
The great majority of Social Housing dwellings do enjoy
hard wired smoke alarm protection,  and increasingly
Heat Alarms in kitchens too.

Hard wired are normally fitted as standard when rewiring work
is carried out, which is usually every 20 years.
New homes of course whether Owner occupied, or for Rental
have to have them  fitted under the Building Regulations.

Heat alarms should never be used in isolation, as this is contrary to:

+ any manufacturer’s recommendation
+ the BS Code of Practice 5839 Pt6:2004,
+The Building Regulations.

Additionally the HHSRS requirements appear to have been ignored;
this
legislation covers properties in England & Wales.

It covers Gas & CO safety amongst other  areas, and all Landlords
& Housebuilders should now be aware of it.

An increasing number of prosecutions have taken place because of non compliance.
