UPDATED CO SAFETY GUIDANCE

The latest information on avoiding carbon monoxide poisoning in homes is available in an updated brochure published by Kidde Fyrnetics. This is essential reading for all public and private housing providers, and clarifies their responsibilities to protect families from the very real dangers of CO, which claims over fifty lives every year.

The brochure covers sources of CO in the home, effects on human health, legislation and legal responsibilities, and the impact of the Decent Homes Standard. The case for fitting CO alarms in all homes is made and updated guidance provided on alarm standards, siting and selection.

Detailed in the brochure, Kidde’s latest hard-wired CO alarms offer numerous important features including the unique ‘Smart Interconnect’ facility. This feature enables its range of hard-wired CO alarms to be interconnect with the company’s hard-wired smoke and heat alarms, for better audibility and whole house protection. With Smart Interconnect, when a smoke or heat alarm is triggered by a fire all the interconnected alarms - including CO alarms - activate to alert occupants of danger. When a CO alarm is triggered by carbon monoxide, all the interconnected CO alarms activate.
The brochure also reflects the dual approvals from CORGI and the BSI Kitemark Kidde has on all CO alarms.

The latest hard-wired CO alarms have different, distinct alarm sounder patterns for carbon monoxide and fire - supported by different digital display messages on one model. Both models in the range are mains powered with sealed-in, rechargeable lithium cells for back-up, preventing tenant access.
They use electrochemical sensors sampling the air every 15 seconds – ensuring greater safety than others sampling at longer intervals. Alarms have a product life of 7 years from initial power up and full guarantee for 6 years.

Kidde Fyrnetics is part of the world’s leading manufacturers of smoke, heat and CO alarms, producing 30million units annually.
