Kidde Fyrnetics - part of the world’s leading manufacturers of smoke, heat and CO alarms, producing 24million units annually – has published new literature covering all its hard-wired products for electrical installers and wholesalers. Of particular interest is the unique ‘Smart Interconnect’ facility enabling its new range of hard-wired CO alarms to interconnect with the company’s hard-wired smoke and heat alarms to meet growing demands for whole house protection.

Alongside the original cabled range of smoke and heat alarms, ‘Slick’® is the only range of fast-fit, rechargeable smoke and heat alarms guaranteed for 10 years. Here, the separate base plate can be installed and wired at first fix if appropriate. Then, near completion, the alarm simply slides onto the base plate hinge flap and locks into place by default. No cable harness is needed and the unique hinged connector avoids problems encountered with subsequent fixing over textured ceiling coverings. Slick® alarms are simply wired through the back or a side cut-out on new-build, or using a surface pattress in existing buildings. Both ranges include ionisation and optical smoke alarms as well as heat alarms, and are available with either rechargeable or alkaline battery back-up.

Both smoke and heat alarm ranges can also use the Smart Interconnect facility with Kidde’s innovative hard-wired CO alarms. When a smoke/heat alarm is triggered by a
fire, all the interconnected alarms (including CO alarms) activate to alert occupants of danger, giving whole property protection. When a CO alarm is triggered by carbon monoxide, all interconnected CO alarms activate. The new hard-wired CO alarms have different, distinct alarm sounder patterns for carbon monoxide and fire - supported by different digital display messages on one model. For a minimum level of protection, an interconnected Kidde Fyrnetics CO alarm in the bedroom can act as the sounder (as suggested by the recent draft Building Regulations Part B Approved Document) for smoke/heat alarms elsewhere, as well as protecting sleeping occupants against carbon monoxide poisoning. Kidde’s new CO alarms have a unique circular design, ideal for either wall or ceiling mounting, incorporating stylish fins to assist air flow to the sensor.
