ADACTUS ACTS ON CARBON MONOXIDE

Adactus Housing Group is now fitting Kidde Fyrnetics battery powered carbon monoxide alarms in its properties as part of a long-term strategy.

The Adactus Board has agreed a 5-year policy to improve safety with CO alarms, prioritising the most vulnerable residents first – generally the under-10s and over-60s. Adactus Manager Doug Grimshaw explains: “We looked at various sources of information and guidance, and it became clear that CO alarms would improve safety in addition to regular servicing of heating installations. Then we carried out a comparison of the different products available and a cost analysis before deciding on the Kidde Fyrnetics unit.”

There is no question that CO alarms save lives – but only if they work effectively throughout their design lives. Kidde Fyrnetics battery CO alarms sample air every 30 seconds rather than the 80 seconds intervals of some products. Kidde produce their own CO cells – the key component – rather than buying them in, and can therefore apply tighter quality controls. For example, every Kidde sensor is tested under CO itself in the factory and all products must pass through several key quality testing ‘gates’ before becoming available for sale.  Additionally, safer and greener ionised water is used, not acid-based electrolytes that suffer variations in electrolytic concentrations. All Kidde CO alarms are also BSi ‘Kitemarked’ and CORGI approved.

Adactus ‘GasSafe’-registered gas engineers are now installing the CO alarms when visiting the more vulnerable occupants. The members of the Adactus Housing Group build, renovate and manage affordable housing for rent and sale. The Group's principle subsidiaries are housing associations: together the Adactus Housing Group owns and manages approximately 11,000 homes across 18 local authority areas in the North West of England.
